Founded in 1922, the Hawaiʻi Library Association (HLA) became an official chapter of the American Library Association in 1924, from its small beginnings the HLA has grown and become a visible proponent of libraries and librarians in Hawaiʻi.
The objective of the Hawaiʻi Library Association is to promote the services of the libraries, the continued improvement of Hawaiʻi libraries, and the participation of libraries and librarians nationally and globally. The Hawaiʻi Library Association is also there to support and promote librarians and the librarian profession in Hawaiʻi.
